Divan Bed
Follow the steps below to assemble your divan bed safely and correctly.
We recommend that assembly is completed by two adults on a clear, level floor. Keep children and pets away from the assembly area. Do not use the bed until all fixings are secure.
Before You Start
- Check that all components and fixings are present and undamaged.
- Protect your flooring and upholstery during assembly.
- Allow enough space to work safely around the bed.
- Two adults are recommended for assembly.
- Do not use the bed until all fixings are secure.
1. Position the Base Sections
Place the divan sections in their final room position. Identify the head end and make sure all sections are facing the same direction.
2. Fit the Feet, Glides or Castors
With help from a second adult, carefully tilt each base section. Fit the supplied feet, glides or castors into the designated mounting points only.
Carefully return each section to its upright position.
3. Join the Divan Sections
Bring the base sections together so that the edges are correctly aligned and flush.
Secure the sections using the supplied joining clips, linking bars or brackets.
Do not force sections together if they are not correctly aligned.
4. Check the Drawers
If your divan includes drawers, remove any transit packaging and check that each drawer opens and closes freely.
Fit the drawer handles securely if they have been supplied separately.
5. Attach the Headboard
Locate the headboard fixing points at the head end of the divan base.
Insert the supplied headboard bolts and spacers where applicable. Position the headboard struts over the bolts, centre the headboard and tighten the fixings securely.
6. Fit the Mattress
Place the correct-size mattress centrally on the divan base.
Check that the bed is stable and all fixings are secure before use.
Back to assembly menu ↑Ottoman Divan Bed
Follow these instructions for gas-lift ottoman divan bases.
Gas-lift components are under pressure. Keep hands, fingers, clothing, children and pets away from hinges and moving components.
Never puncture, heat, dismantle or modify a gas strut.
Before You Start
- Two adults are recommended for assembly.
- Check the base, platform, hinges and gas-lift mechanism for visible damage.
- Do not remove or alter factory-fitted mechanism components.
- Keep the storage compartment clear while testing the mechanism.
- Keep children and pets away during assembly.
1. Position the Base
Place the ottoman divan in its final room position.
With help from a second adult, fit the supplied feet, glides or castors into the designated mounting points.
2. Join the Base Sections
If your ottoman divan is supplied in more than one section, align the sections so that the top edges are level.
Secure the sections using the supplied joining fittings.
3. Check the Gas-Lift Mechanism
Inspect the pre-fitted lift platform, hinges, gas struts and visible pivot fixings.
Make sure the components are correctly seated and show no signs of damage.
Do not remove or alter factory-fitted mechanism hardware.
4. Attach the Headboard
Locate the headboard fixing points at the head end of the bed.
Fit the supplied headboard bolts and spacers where applicable. Position the headboard centrally and tighten all fixings securely.
5. Fit the Mattress
Place the correct-size mattress centrally on the ottoman platform.
The mattress forms part of the intended operating load for the gas-lift mechanism.
6. Test the Ottoman
Using the designated lifting handle or strap where supplied, slowly raise the ottoman platform.
Lower the platform carefully and in a controlled manner. Keep your hands, clothing and bedding away from the hinges, gas struts and other moving components.
A new ottoman mechanism may feel firm, particularly before the mattress has been fitted.
Never use your body weight or excessive force to close the ottoman platform.
Gas-Lift Ottoman Bed Frame
Follow these instructions for upholstered bed frames with a gas-lift mattress platform.
The mattress platform and gas-lift mechanism must be supported correctly during assembly.
Keep children and pets away from the bed until assembly is complete.
Before You Start
Your bed may include:
- Headboard
- Footboard
- Two side rails
- Centre support rails
- Support legs
- Gas-lift mattress platform
- Gas struts
- Ottoman lift arms or hinges
- Bolts, washers and nuts
- Mattress retaining bar
- Lifting handle or strap, where supplied
1. Lay Out the Bed Frame
Place the headboard, footboard and side rails on a protected floor in their approximate final positions.
Identify the head end and the left and right side rails before beginning assembly.
2. Connect the Side Rails
Attach both side rails to the headboard and footboard using the supplied brackets and fixings.
Start the structural fixings loosely. Once the main frame has been assembled, check that the frame is square before tightening the fixings evenly.
3. Install the Centre Supports
Fit all centre rails, cross supports and support legs at their designated fixing points.
Adjust the support feet so that they make firm contact with the floor without lifting the outside of the bed frame.
4. Fit the Ottoman Lift Assemblies
Attach the left and right lift arms or hinge assemblies to the designated factory mounting points using only the supplied hardware.
Make sure both sides use the corresponding mounting positions.
5. Install the Gas-Lift Platform
With two adults supporting the mattress platform, position it onto the ottoman lift assemblies.
Secure the platform using the supplied bolts, washers and nuts.
6. Attach the Gas Struts
If the gas struts are supplied separately, keep the platform securely supported while attaching them.
Connect each gas strut only to its designated mounting points.
Never attempt to compress, puncture, heat, dismantle or modify a gas strut.
If the mechanism requires excessive force to align, stop and re-check the frame and lift-arm positions.
7. Fit the Retaining Components
Install the mattress retaining bar, lifting strap or handle and any remaining platform components supplied with your bed.
8. Tighten and Check the Frame
Check that the headboard, footboard and side rails are square.
Tighten all accessible structural fixings evenly.
Check that all centre support legs remain firmly in contact with the floor.
9. Fit the Mattress and Test the Lift
Place the correct-size mattress onto the platform before normal operation.
Slowly open and close the ottoman using the designated lifting handle or strap.
Keep your hands away from all moving joints and never force a twisted or obstructed mechanism.
